I've been wanting to get down and take some night shots of these boats for a while. Despite the moon it was pitch black at the time. I lit the boat with a single speedlight by setting a long exposure and running around firing the speedlight at the boat - three times for fill light and one for key light. This long exposure meant the moon was blown out and the clouds were too blurred and soft, so I composited in the sky from a shorter exposure. I think (hope) it all comes together quite nicely.

Early morning on the lake. This is an HDR composite of three separate exposures. I didn't have my tripod with me so it is hand held, resulting in a few problems in the HDR image but not to bad at this size.

My friend over at white garage often shows me new ways of looking at the world around me through his photography. So I was happy to hear he was having an exhibition.
